What is a personal chef service?

In these times of fast paced, hectic lives, wouldn't it be nice to come home in the evening to find dinner prepared for you to simply heat and serve it? That is exactly what your personal chef service can offer you.  We can either come to your home to prepare, generally, 5 nights of complete meals for you and your family or the meals can be prepared for you at our place and delivered to you.  You select from a wide variety of menus then we do all the shopping based on your likes and dislikes. Each week, we offer a special treat for you. In addition to the regular meal selections, we always leave a pan of homemade brownies or a few dozen cookies, maybe chocolate chip or oatmeal (gluten free, of course) in the pantry for your enjoyment through the week.

In the beginning, after you have selected our service, we will sit down and draw up a personal guideline for you. We ask specific questions about things such as food allergies, special diets and  the obvious personal preferences. With these guidlines in hand we can then personalize your service. A day of the week is agreed upon and that week's menu is selected, then we do all of the shopping and prepare your meals, leaving them in your refrigerator with simple heating instructions and serving suggestions. We then clean up after ourselves and leave your kitchen spotless.

How much can I expect to pay for this service?

Our hourly rate is $18 per hour plus the cost of your food. It generally takes about 6 hours per week to shop for and prepare meals for 5 nights. Once you have selected our service, you will be asked to pay a one time additional charge for a set of storage containers that we will use to store your meals after preparation. This charge is generally around $15 and the containers are infinitely re-usable.

What are your qualifications?

I am a professionally trained chef. I have worked, as a chef for the University of Georgia, California State College, Hayward in addition to owning my own bakery and restaurant for many years. I am currently working as a breakfast and lunch chef at the McCall campus of the University of Idaho. I have times available each day to offer my services as an alternative to the eating out or the"fast food" routine that so many of you are doing, today. Additionally, you will find that having a personal chef is less expensive, too.

What sort of preparation do you do?

Since my own diagnosis of celiac disease and numerous food allergies, I have made it my mission to use a predominance of fresh ingredients in the preparation of your meals. I have found that store bought items contain far too much sodium in addition to ingredients that I can't even pronounce. Grain gluten can be hidden under such headings as 'modified food starch", so labels have to be read and understood. I believe that the use of fresh herbs and correct spices offer better and more complete flavor than anything that comes in a can or bottle.

I don't cook very much so I have minimal equipment.

That is not a problem for us. We can bring our "kitchen" to your place depending on your menu selections for that week.

I'm having guests for the weekend. Do you cater events outside of your regular services?

We would be happy to accomodate any special events for you. Please understand, though, this would necessarily be in addition to your regularly scheduled weekly appointment and would be charged accordingly. If you are not one of our regular clients, we are more than happy to cater your special events and you will find that our fees are very reasonable. We will be happy to provide you with a no obligation quote for your catering needs.
